ForIT Pledges To Stand By The Employees of TCS

The recent developments regarding TCS’s plan to lay off around 25000 employees over the course of the next few months have certainly come as a shock to all of us.

TCSers are known for their committed workmanship and have been the flag bearers of the IT industry for several years now. The company acquired the brand value due to the dedicated, committed and proven hard work of its employees.

The claim of TCS management that they are not laying off employees is not true. They have been asking employees to either resign or to face the prospect of termination. Since termination results in non-employability of the employees with future companies, they are forced to resign.

This is an issue related to the lives of 25000 employees and their families. Moreover, TCS and other IT companies have been given tax exemptions to the tune of thousands of crores because they have promised to provide employment opportunities. Irrational lay-offs like this are only a betrayal of the promise they’ve made. Therefore, the State Government of Telangana and the Government of India should intervene in protecting the interests of the employees associated with the company.

ForIT demands the management of TCS to release a white paper on the reasons why people are being asked to involuntarily leave the firm and the basis on which such employees are selected to be laid off. It is a common knowledge among the IT employees that during the performance evaluation process, employees are force-fit into certain bands. When the firm force-fits employees into lower bands, how can they term them as under-performers.

The Govt. of Telangana and the Govt. of India have the responsibility to protect the affected employees and their families. They should intervene and ensure that appropriate grievance redressal mechanisms are put in place for the employees who are forced to leave the organisations.

ForIT pledges to be with the TCSers in this tough period and shall strive for the unity of IT professionals in ensuring the job security and protecting our employment.

Let us all unite to protect our employment and demand the government to move towards ensuring job security.
