On Joint Meeting Called by the Deputy Labour Commissioner between retrenched employees and TCS Management
One day, Rajini, receives a call from HR for a quick meeting. The gist of the meeting was "after proper evaluation, the company did not find her services useful anymore and she has to leave within 2 weeks" The HR did not offer any valid reason, nor there is any compensation. This turned her life upside down. This is the story of many of our fellow IT employees in the recent days. This is not just a hypothetical situation. An audio clip (which is in public domain now) of the exit interview of a laid-off employee in an IT giant, revealed that the HR are clueless about these layoffs. To anyone with common sense it's very clear that there is no concrete basis or reason for these lay-offs. With the current trend, any of us can be in Rajini’s place.
A cab driver was arrested in Hyderabad by the 'SHE team'(comprising of men & women police personnel), after he was caught filming a woman techie while she was asleep. ForIT expresses happiness with the 'SHE teams' efforts in curbing such crime against women, especially in the IT corridor.
In the light of the Madras High Court restraining TCS from retrenching an employee, ForIT (Forum of IT Professionals) demands that TCS stop retrenching employees till a comprehensive grievance redress al mechanism is put in place.
"The city techies will not take the ‘pink slips’ lying down but will ‘WAIT’. Confused? A good number of sacked IT employees of an MNC have come together to start an outfit called Welfare Association of IT Employees (WAIT) to challenge their termination.
The recent developments regarding TCS’s plan to lay off around 25000 employees over the course of the next few months have certainly come as a shock to all of us.
